Karachi Biryani: A delicious and authentic food-dish from Pakistan
Karachi Biryani is a delicious and authentic Pakistan cuisine. Serves three people.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups basmati rice, washed and drained
- 1 pound chicken (boneless) (cut into small pieces)
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 cup curd
- 1/2 cup chopped coriander
- 1/4 cup chopped mint

- In a large bowl, combine rice, chicken, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, garam masala and salt. Mix chicken and rice well.
- Add oil to the pan and cook on low flame. Then add chopped onion to it and fry for about 4-6 minutes until it becomes soft.
- Then add chopped tomatoes and do the same as you did with onions.
- Add yogurt and cook until heated through, about 2 minutes.
- Add the chicken and rice mixture to the pot and stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until the rice is completely cooked.
- Add green coriander and mint, mix and serve hot.
TIPS for Karachi Biryani Recipe:
- For a more flavorful biryani, you can marinate the chicken in the spice mixture for 30 minutes before cooking.
- If you don’t have curd, you can use sour cream or evaporated milk instead.
- Serve biryani with raita or chutney.
