Karachi Biryani: A delicious and authentic food-dish from Pakistan

Karachi Biryani is a delicious and authentic Pakistan cuisine. With the unique oriental combination of local basmati rice, chicken or meat and various Pakistani (or Indian) spices; It has a distinct Karachi flavor. Karachi Biryani is a popular (fast) food in Pakistan, and it is also becoming increasingly popular around the world. Here’s the recipe of your favorite Karachi Biryani.

Serves three people.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups basmati rice, washed and drained
    • 1 pound chicken (boneless) (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1/2 cup chopped coriander
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint

Instructions:

  • In a large bowl, combine rice, chicken, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, garam masala and salt. Mix chicken and rice well.
  • Add oil to the pan and cook on low flame. Then add chopped onion to it and fry for about 4-6 minutes until it becomes soft.
  • Then add chopped tomatoes and do the same as you did with onions.
  • Add yogurt and cook until heated through, about 2 minutes.
  • Add the chicken and rice mixture to the pot and stir to combine.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until the rice is completely cooked.
  • Add green coriander and mint, mix and serve hot.

TIPS for Karachi Biryani Recipe:

  • For a more flavorful biryani, you can marinate the chicken in the spice mixture for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • If you don’t have curd, you can use sour cream or evaporated milk instead.
  • Serve biryani with raita or chutney.
